Our Program Staff

Marcos Levy who came to Vermont in 1993 to discover community and a sense of well being.  He is happy to report that he has found both.  A practiced musician and dedicated instructor, Marcos started "The New Learning Project" in 1996, where he offers music instruction, sound and video engineering, web design, and health and safety courses.  Marcos' enthusiasm for what he does is contagious, making him a wonderful part of the SUMMERWEEK experience.  In his fourth year Marcos will again be Co-directing SUMMERWEEK, and offering activities in song, dance, and instrumental music.

Grace Brigham is delighted that this summer’s theme is PUPPETS! She has loved making and animating puppets since childhood: beginning with sock puppet shows from behind her father’s armchair to clay-headed puppets in cardboard box theaters, marionettes, life-sized wearable puppets, and monstrous creatures over ten feet tall.
She attended an amazing performance at the marionette theatre in Salzburg in 1968, and since then has learned from puppeteers of the Mettawee Theater Co., Bread and Puppet, Circus Smirkus and Sandglass Theatre.  Grace gleefully anticipates working with this summer’s thinkers, writers, builders, musicians, and imaginers to create some powerful stuff!

Creative Pam Monder is returning for her 4th year at Hayes Camp, her first as Co-director.  During SUMMERWEEK 2008, she will share her World Puppet, Art, design and writing experience with eager campers.  Pam taught at Chaffee Art Center for many years before moving on to the CCV Rutland where she teaches English, Spanish, World Folklore, Literature and Humanities courses.  An avid traveler, she was fortunate to see a puppet performance in Belgium some 25 years ago.  Although she didn’t speak Flemish, the message of environmental awareness was clear, and Pam remembers even now those powerful puppets.

Catherine Jockell will be returning for an amazing 11th year on Elfin Lake, flying up from Guatemala specifically for SUMMERWEEK.  In past years, Catherine has lent her talents in drama, costume design, and Art, so this year’s theme is right up her alley.  She will act as SUMMERWEEK 2008’s Drama Director.

Veteran counselor Sophia Chamberlain is returning for another year on the Hayes Camp staff.  Sophia's extensive and impressive musical resume (which includes acceptances into various prestigious choral festivals as well as technical proficiency on the violin and trombone)
qualifies her uniquely to work with the camp's musicians.  In addition to her musical abilities, Sophia is a talented writer with a truly contagious passion for life.  Sophia will serve as this summer’s resident expert in world song, our Music Director.

Returning for a 3rd year at Hayes Camp is Jeff Scott.  He is a student at the UVM where he is pursuing majors in English and Political Science.  Jeff is an aspiring writer whose hobbies include running, playing chess, and engaging in the occasional word duel.  His amazing talents will make for a lively Writers’ Corner where he will work with budding storytellers, journalists, poets, and other creative scribblers.

Join these veterans and new staff for a fun-filled SUMMERWEEK experience!
