The Hayes Foundation presents Summerweek 2008

No matter how you say it…

…puppets are part of every culture around the world.

Storytellers have used colorful, intricate puppets to enhance magical tales for thousands of years.  Children worldwide play with finger and hand puppets.  At school, puppets teach important lessons about bullying or poetry.  Health organizations employ puppets to educate new mothers about baby care, immunizations and nutrition.  Puppets in Africa demonstrate disease prevention; in India they encourage literacy.  Even children’s TV shows feature puppets that teach math, reading and sharing.

That’s the power of puppets…

We, at Hayes Camp, are looking for 40 bright and motivated kids, ages 9 – 15, from around Rutland County and beyond.  For 2 weeks (June 22 – July 3, 2008), campers and our multi-talented veteran counselors will “travel the world” in search of puppets, theater, folklore, popular culture, history, art and more…  During this very hands-on experience, we will build our own world puppets to put on original puppet plays which will feature music we write, props we make, and new tales we invent!

Join us for the annual Hayes Summerweek Camp at beautiful Elfin Lake in Wallingford, VT, where old friends and new acquaintances will create memories to last a lifetime!  Campers will enjoy the outdoors, swimming, games, camp fires, songs, great food and so much more!
