In fond memory of Mitch Spencer, lover of fine music and patron of promising young musicians, The Hayes Foundation is able to make a series of awards again this year, to three outstanding student musicians residing in Rutland County: one in the amount of $500 and two others at $250.

These awards will be made in late May 2009. The Foundation invites your nomination(s) for these awards. Nominees may be any age or stage of musical development, vocal or instrumental, but should only be nominated on the basis of their work in classical music.

A nomination form is enclosed, to be mailed before March 24 th 2009.

Since only three such awards can be made, The Hayes Foundation will make selections using these criteria:

1. Students of unusual talent and musical insight;
2. Students with strong character attributes -- dedication, cooperation and a generous readiness to be of help to others;
3. Students with clear financial need;
4. Students whose principal musical endeavors are concentrated in the classical repertoire.

Students who are nominated will need to complete a short written declaration of their musical goals and interests. Students are requested to submit a short recording of a piece in performance.
